Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) Calculator
Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) accounts for 60% to 75% of your total daily calorie expenditure. It represents the energy demanded by your brain, heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, and cellular homeostasis while at complete rest in a post-absorptive state.
Your estimated daily maintenance energy (TDEE).
*Clinical estimate. Adjust gradually based on observed 14-day body weight trends.
Formula & Calculation Methodology
Men: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) + 5. Women: BMR = (10 × weight in kg) + (6.25 × height in cm) - (5 × age in years) - 161.
Practical Example & Interpretation
A 25-year-old male weighing 80 kg at 180 cm tall has a BMR of: (10 × 80) + (6.25 × 180) - (5 × 25) + 5 = 800 + 1125 - 125 + 5 = 1,805 kcal/day.
Assumptions & Clinical Disclaimers
BMR is measured clinically in a thermoneutral environment after 12 hours of fasting. Formula outputs are accurate within ±10% for the majority of the population.
